Doctor appointment and "catch up"

I know it's been a little while again since our last post. What can I say though, with the holidays and our little one's arrival fast approaching it has been very crazy around here. :-P

First let me tell you about our latest office visit. My blood pressure was good and the baby's heartrate was back to where it has been all along-156. I have gained about 4 more pounds, which is good and I can tell with certain clothes, especially my winter jacket (that seemed to fit loosely about a week ago). :-D One of the first questions I asked the doctor was about my glucose test because not much has been explained to us about that. Here's the lowdown. They gave me 4 different glucose tests. Out of the four tests they gave me I failed one of the four. This isn't cause for great alarm, says the doctor, but they want to put me on a 2200 calorie diet to be safe. The doctor said the official term to describe my condition is glucose intolerant for a pregnant woman. Basically, my body isn't making enough insulin for a pregnant woman. This diet should help with this. Something else the doctor said that I found interesting is that they, the doctors, don't like women with this condition to carry their child too long after their due date. Baby Avery could arrive right on time. Okay, that makes me nervous even to think about-on to the next subject.

Our childbirth classes are completed and we have received our certificate, which is going into the baby book-of course. Also, we have attended a breastfeeding class, which I think I'm going to attempt to do. It seems to be the healthiest thing for our child so what the heck-I'll give it a try.

I was supposed to go to a dietician last Thursday, but missed the appointment, which in and of itself is a long story. At the doctor appointment on Wednesday I was supposed to get some blood drawn. I didn't realize this so I didn't fast for the 2 hours that I was supposed to and consequently couldn't get my blood drawn. I told the office I'd be in on Thursday to get it completed-how long could a blood draw take, right? Little did I know that on Thursday they'd be running 1 hour behind. To make a long story shorter-I did get my blood drawn, but it was almost at the 3 hour window so it may not be a valid test and I missed the dietician appointment. I'm scheduled to visit the dietician on Monday afterschool and will not miss this one.

One last detail, since it seems like every weekend has some kind of baby activity in it...our rug for the nursery came in yesterday and Tom picked it up this morning. It is now in the nursery waiting for the big bed to be taken down. Also, we ordered Sesame Street switchplates and plug plates (from ebay) for the nursery. All the finishing touches will be completed at Christmas time.

We have 7 more weeks until Baby Avery. It won't be much longer-can you believe it because I know we can't. :-D

7 weeks will go by so fast because of all the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Tom, but mostly with Baby Avery of course!!!
