YEAH!!! We've completed our home study process today. Our social worker came to the house today for our home visit. It went really well. She was only here for 2 hours, which hardly seems worth all of the effort that we put in yesterday preparing the house. She said we'd be approved for a child from 0-6 years of age and a bi-racial or full African American, but no sibling groups. Having siblings at this point is a little too much for us. Tom and I are very happy about that this part is complete.
We have quite a bit of paperwork to send in to the agency. Tom's making copies of that tomorrow morning and then I'll be sending them tomorrow after he's finished. She told us that we'll be up for discussion on Monday with the agency. What does that mean? We're not 100% sure, but I'm thinking they'll probably let everyone else at the agency know that we're almost ready to be active and fill them in on what we're like, what we'd accept as a child/situation so that they can recommend us if necessary. We've also retained a lawyer for our case when the birthparents have picked us. We're in the process of getting a loan approved for the rest of the expenses that we haven't been able to pay for.
Basically, now the only things we have left to do is get our background check for Wayne County (the county we live in), I need to get my physical (the form will need to be mailed back when that's completed), our biography will need to be created (the agency should be working on that now).
They gave us a check sheet that we can check off items that we got completed for the adoption process. It's nice to see that list has come down to one item, my physical. It has been very frustrating for me not being able to have this completed yet. As most of you know I'm the planner and very organized so for this to be the only thing we don't have done is very frustrating for me. Tom is very supportive and encouraging that we will be able to check that off soon. Hopefully I'll be able to have an appointment set up by Friday afternoon.
We will probably be purchasing a car seat very soon, as recommended by the agency. This is one thing we won't need to worry about if we receive the urgent phone call. Also we went through some baby items that were given to us this past weekend to see what we had. This was very helpful for us to know what we need to purchase in the future.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we continue to work through this process and begin the actual "nitty-gritty" so to speak.

YAY!!! I'm so excited for you! Our first post-placement visit is tomorrow! The girls have vaccinations in the morning, and the visit in the afternoon. I pray they SLEEP well so they wake up happy girls!
It sounds like you overprepared, just like we did! I told you they wouldn't look in your fridge!!! :)
Did you say that you will NOT be approved for sibling groups, or for bi-racial or African American babies? I thought you were open to those? Maybe I'm confused. Email me if you don't mind...I'm curious...especially if we go this route next time around! :)
I'm SO glad that you have this done. I'm also excited to hear you'll be buying a car seat! Doesn't that make it seem real???
You said you got some things for the baby this past weekend...did you have a shower? You know I have to be kept in the loop!
Ok,congrats on checking that off. I'm so excited to see your progress!!!!
I am so glad for the two of you that this part is over. I know how much you were worried about the home study. I am very happy that you are just that much closer to being parents. That means I'm closer to being a grandma too. :)
I know that God will send the child that He knows is best to start your family. I pray in thanksgiving for this all the time. I'm looking forward to the call to let me know when I can go "grandma shopping".
Love,
Grandma B
