Hurricane Ike

Wow! What a story I can tell our baby about the fall before it was born. Hurricane Ike made its prescence known to us yesterday and it was a doozy. The wind really was strong, and it wasn't even a real hurricane! We weren't as fortunate as we have been with other storms. We didn't have any tornado warnings, which were expected, but boy did we have the wind. We lost most of the shingles off of our garage roof and didn't have power for 8 1/2 hours, but other than that we fared okay. Tom and I walked around yesterday evening after the winds had died down and I took some pictures (see below).

Our garage roof

This is a tree branch that blew right through the fence at a neighborhood school.

I now have a new appreciation for those in hurricane areas. I can't imagine what it must be like in those areas when there actually is a hurricane. I'm glad we made it through okay and hopefully that's all we're going to get.

There have been a few happenings since my 5 month post. First and most important-I HAVE FELT THE BABY MOVE! Tom might have even felt it for the first time last night. To me it felt like little kicks and I wasn't even sure that's what that was at first. However, I asked some colleagues at work about it the next day and they were very excited to tell me that that's exactly what that was. What a relief it is to finally be able to feel that. I don't have to wait so long now to know that the baby's okay (heartbeat at appointment). Also, I said that Tom may have felt the baby last night. We were both on the couch enjoying the hand-crank radio and wondering when we were going to get electricity back when I told him I felt the baby moving. He immediately placed his hand on my tummy and felt something. I think it was the baby and he thought it was too. The way I was sitting though it may have been difficult to know for sure. We are both relieved that the baby is moving and things seem to be going well. Tonight the baby was moving and again he placed his hand on my stomach. Now we know for sure that that's what he felt last night. He felt it tonight and was so excited. He is on Cloud 9 and who can blame him.

Onward to other stuff. It seems that most of the items we'd like to have for the nursery we're going to have to order online. What would we do without the Internet?! We have our Sesame Street theme. All we have so far is a throw blanket and the crib bedding. We don't have anything to decorate our nursery yet. I'm a planner so it was making me kind of nervous that we haven't really begun to think about things yet. Anyway, we spent Saturday looking for border and other items and couldn't find anything Sesame Street. Since I had luck finding the bedding I thought I'd try online again. I found some border that can only be purchased online at Home Depot. I think it'll look okay, but Tom and I need to look at it to be sure. If it seems to go with our room theme then it's a go. At least that will be something.

Our next appointment is coming up in a couple of weeks, September 30. Keep the positive thoughts and prayers coming this way.

Feeling the baby for the first time is an AWESOME experience. So glad that both of you have now felt "your new world" move.
I'm very grateful that you only lost shingles and electricity from Ike. You were being protected by angels.
Time seems to be passing quickly. Before we know it, you'll be holding your "bundle of joy".
Love,
GG

Feeling the baby for the first time, is exciting!!! I can't wait to hear the first time you actually see the baby doing the wave in your belly! Very exciting.

I am glad you didn't have much damage from the storm.

Prayers and blessings to the three of you.
